Henry Dawson Craven was born Aug. 21, 1830 in
Tennessee.
Henry
enlisted at Camp Butler,
Illinois
in Co. D Illinois 5th Calvary
Regiment. He took with
him his favorite riding horse valued at $110 and saddle valued at
$35.00. In the siege at
Vicksburg
during May and June, 1863 his horse was lost, he mounted up again.
Henry was in the February, 1864 Roll Call Expedition with General
Sherman.
September/October 1864 hospitalized at McPherson General
Hospital, Vicksburg, Mississippi.
Corporal Henry D. Cravens was mustered out at the end of his
term December 9, 1864.
He was married 1st to Eleanor White abt. 1851. Eleanor
was born May 5, 1833 in Wayne Co., IL and died May 13, 1902.
She is buried at Fairview Cemetery, Logan Co.,
Kansas. He married 2nd Mrs. Susan
Brown Oct. 30, 1905 at Sacramento, California.
Susan died Mar. 22, 1908 in
Kansas City, Kansas.
Henry died May 21, 1912 at Downs, Osborn Co.,
Kansas.
He was buried in Fairview
Cemetery, Logan
Co., Kansas.
