Mortgage Deed - 1847
Daniel L. Powless to School Commissioner I Daniel L. Powless of the county of Wayne and state of Illinois do hereby grant, convey and transfer to the school commissioner of Wayne for the use of the county school fund of the county of Wayne the following real estate to wit: The South West fourth of the South West quarter of section twenty six and the South East fourth of the South East quarter of section twenty seven in township one South Range seven east lying and being in the county of Wayne and State of Illinois which real estate I declare to be in mortgage for the payment of two hundred and twenty five dollars loaned to me by the said school commissioner and all interest that may accrue thereon to be computed at the rate of eight per cent per annum until paid. And thereby covenant to pay the said sum of money in twelve months from the date hereof and to pay interest on the same at the rate aforesaid half yearly in advance. I further covenant that I have a good title to said estate and that the same is free from all incumbrances that I will pay all taxes and assessments which may be levied on said estate and if said estate is sold to pay said debt or any part thereof I will deliver immediate possession of the premises. Witness my hand and seal this 11th day of January 1847 Daniel L. Powless {Seal} State of Illinois Wayne County: This day personally appeared before me the undersigned, a Justice of the peace in and for county, Daniel L. Powless whose name appears to the within Mortgage Deed, and who is known to me to be the person who executed the same and acknowledged the same to be his act and deed for the use and purpose therein mentioned.
