Mrs. Emma Perkins Writes.
I have been much interested in your Wayne County History articles. The Perkins family has contributed a bit to the history of this county. Representatives of the family first came here in the year 1866, when Lucius C. Perkins came here. Mr. Perkins was born at Gustavus, Trumbull County, Ohio. After going through the war and with General Sherman in his march from Atlanta to the Sea he came to this county in 1866. He drove a team with a covered wagon, for Rufus Kelley, taking six weeks to make the trip. Kellys were grandparents of Mrs. Tom Bobbett who are now living in Jasper the families who settled on and near the Perkins farm. He remained there until the death of his companion in 1880 when he returned to Ohio, where he passed away, December 1880. The Perkins Farm in Jasper is still owned by the son Dwight A. Perkins where he and wife farmed there 31 years but for the past 15 years has been a resident of Fairfield. Lucius was married 1867 to Virginia Pilcher who was born in Meigs county, Ohio. She was a sister of the late E. B. Pilcher who for many years was a resident of Jasper. Also a sister of Mrs. Abram Grove, deceased, the mother of Lew Grove, of Jasper. Wayne County Illinois Press. December 19, 1935. Submitted by Betty Beeson
