Pin Oak Baptist Church
PIN OAK BAPTIST CHURCH DEDICATED A Big Day in Religious Circles out in Western Wayne County. The new Pin Oak Baptist church at Old Cincinnati was dedicated to the Lord Sunday, May 29, in the forenoon amid much enthusiasm and great rejoicing. The day was ideal for the occasion after the morning shower which held some back from coming to the morning service. The forenoon service was largely attended and at the afternoon services the crowd was immense. The dedicatory service was conducted by Eld. L. Tucker, Missionary of the Mt. Erie Association. The text was First Kings 8:11, "For the glory of the Lord filled the temple of the Lord". Theme, the Temple or God's dwelling place. After the sermon the required amount of $173 was called for and the response was so hearty that in a few minutes the clerk announced that $211 had been subscribed, of which amount $142 was paid down. After the indebtedness was provided for, we sang that grand old song, "How Firm a Foundation Ye Saints of the Lord" and an old fashioned handshake took place, after which we turned over all to the blessed Lord in prayer and thanksgiving, led by Bro. W. J. Anderson, after which we went to a beautiful nearby grove and partook of a bountiful dinner of good things which was one of the finest dinners we ever saw spread. After dinner we again went to the house and at 2:30 engaged in devotional services. Bro. Anderson then preached a fine sermon to a great congregation of people in and around the house. To say that the presence of the Lord was felt is putting it very mildly for surely the Lord's presence was felt in power and His people rejoiced because of what they saw, heard and felt in their hearts. The little sacrificing church, with their big hearted, noble pastor, Bro. J. S. Bright was certainly happy and are to be congratulated, because of their success. May the richest blessings of heaven be theirs to continually enjoy. The services closed by one good sister joining the church. Wayne County Illinois Press June 9, 1910 Submitted by Betty Beeson
