John Lally Family

John Lally was born on Jun 07, 1848 in Ireland. John immigrated to the US arriving in the port of New York Apr. 20, 1865 aboard the City of  Limerick, his sister Bridget was aboard the ship with him.

He married Elizabeth Dalton the daughter of Barney Dalton and Unknown O'Clary. While no proof was ever located it is said they were married abt. 1866 in Bridgeport, CT. She was born on Jul 01, 1847 in Ireland. Elizabeth died on Jun 28, 1915 in Decatur, Macon, Illinois. John died on Aug 11, 1934 in Decatur, Macon, Illinois. Both John & Elizabeth are buried in Calvary Cemetery, Decatur, IL.

John & Elizabeth Dalton Lally had 7 children:

1. Mary Lally was born on May 21, 1876 in Stratford, CT. She married OliverOllie" Moreland on Jan 10, 1897 in Decatur, Macon, Illinois. She died on Nov 08, 1926 in Decatur, Macon, Illinois. Mary was buried in Calvary Cemetery, Decatur, IL.   Mary had one child out of wedlock.  His name was Clarence Lally; Clarence’s father was one Clarence Kelso, who Mary sued for bastardy.  The spectacle of this suit was carried on the front pages of Decatur newspaper.  Upon the death of her brother Frank, Mary once again appeared before the courts stating her father basically was stealing from her brother’s estate.  She claimed gold was missing from her brother’s trunk.  Whether Mary ever repaired her relationship with her father is unknown.

2. John Henry Lally was born on Jan 31, 1879 in Newark, NJ. He first married Margaret McGinty on Jun 27, 1901 in Decatur, Macon, Illinois. After the death of Margaret John married Catherine Eich. John died Mar., 1954 in Chicago, IL. John was buried at Mount Carmel Cemetery, Hillside, IL Section V Block 12 Lot 11 Grave 4.

3. Frank T. Lally. He was born on Mar 02, 1881. He died on Oct 16, 1913 in Decatur, Macon, Illinois.  Cause of Death was Syphilis & Paralysis. Frank was buried in Calvary Cemetery, Decatur, IL.

In the Friday Evening issue of the Decatur Review Frank Lally's obituary read as follows:

Frank Lally age thirty-two, for a long time driver boss at No. 2 mine of the Decatur Coal Company, died at 9:40 Thursday night at St. Mary's Hospital.  He was the  son of Mr. and Mrs. John Lally, 1562 East Sangamon St.  His death was caused by paralysis, after a long illness.  He was first stricken last January.

He was taken to St. Mary's hospital in June and later to Hot Springs, Ark.  He improved rapidly for a while but on Sept. 30 he suffered another stroke and had been confined to bed ever since.  He was well known in the city, where his entire life had been spent.  He was born here March 30, 1880.  He was a member of St.  Patrick's Catholic Church, and also Knights of Columbus.  He was employed in the Decatur Coal mines for many years and was well liked.

He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Lally, and three sisters Anna  Petrosky, Mrs. Mary Moreland, Mrs. Elizabeth Leveck, and two brothers John Lally  Jr. and William Lally all of Decatur.

4. William Joseph Lally. He was born on Apr 14, 1882 in Decatur, Macon, Illinois. He died on Jun 27, 1945 in Decatur, Macon, Illinois. William was buried in Calvary Cemetery, Decatur, Macon, IL.

5. Anna Lally. She was born on Oct 10, 1884 in Decatur, Macon, Illinois.  She married Fred Petrosky on Feb 29, 1908 in Decatur, Macon, Illinois. She died on Oct 11, 1967 in Decatur, Macon, Illinois. Anna was buried in Calvary Cemetery, Decatur, IL.

6. Richard Lally. He was born Jul 1886 in Decatur, IL. He died on Feb 26, 1887 in Decatur, IL.

7. Elizabeth Lally. She was born on Aug 15, 1889 in Decatur, Macon, Illinois.  She married Raymond Hiram Leveck on Oct 01, 1907 in Decatur, Macon, Illinois. She died on Jun 08, 1978 in Decatur, Macon, Illinois. Elizabeth was buried in Calvary Cemetery, Decatur, IL.
